Alligator Falls Trail (~8.26 km one way) in Bowling Green Bay National Park — a long, rugged Grade 5 day hike from the Alligator Creek day-use area via Cockatoo Creek and Hidden Valley to the base of the cascading Alligator Falls on Mount Elliot, about 25 km south of Townsville. Expect three creek crossings, an exposed hot section on a management access track and a boulder scramble through rainforest at the end. Allow 5-6 hours return; for fit, experienced walkers only. Never attempt during or after heavy rain (flash flooding), do not climb the falls or cliffs, and never jump or dive into the water. Remote area with little or no phone coverage: tell someone your plans, carry plenty of water and a map. Hot and exposed: start early and carry plenty of water. Seasonal: tracks may close after heavy rain, in the wet season or during fire management; check Queensland Parks alerts before you go. Check in at GPS points to earn ACTIVE Coins.
