Douglas Track (~4.4 km one way) in Barron Gorge National Park — a historic packhorse route climbing the steep rainforest slopes of the Barron Gorge from the Lake Placid side, with glimpses back over Cairns and the coastal plain. Steep and slippery after rain. Crocodile country: stay well back from the water's edge and never swim in creeks, rivers or estuaries. Seasonal: tracks may close after heavy rain, in the wet season or during fire management; check Queensland Parks alerts before you go. Hot and exposed: start early and carry plenty of water.
