Bungoona Walk (~2.88 km one way; NPWS lists 5.7 km return) in Bald Rock National Park — the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service walk to the summit of Bald Rock, Australia's largest granite dome, listed at 5.7 km return (1 to 2 hours) and graded Grade 3. From Bald Rock campground and picnic area it winds past granite boulders and gum trees for 2.2 km, then climbs the final 600 m to the summit, avoiding the steep rockface of the Grade 5 Bald Rock Summit walk. Watch for jacky lizards on the granite and listen for superb lyrebirds. Experienced walkers can descend via the Summit walk; otherwise return the same way. From Tenterfield, take Mount Lindesay Road for 29 km, then the sealed Bald Rock Access Road for 5 km. Park entry fees apply. NPWS is running a 1080 wild dog and fox baiting program in reserves in the area until 22 November 2026. Hot and exposed: start early and carry plenty of water.
