Murray Scrub Walking Track (~5.01 km loop) in Toonumbar National Park — an NPWS Grade 3 rainforest loop (NPWS lists 5.5 km, 2 to 3 hours) in World Heritage-listed Toonumbar National Park. Walk through streams and under vines, past forests of bangalow palms, buttressed rainforest giants, strangler figs and a scenic lagoon to the highlight: a stand of old-growth red cedar. Great for birdwatching, so bring binoculars. Access note (NPWS alert, Oct 2026): Toonumbar Forest Drive and Coxs Road are closed until about April 2027, and the Murray Scrub walking track is only accessible via Murray Scrub Road from Afterlee; Murray Scrub lookout and Sherwood lookout are closed. Remote area with little or no phone coverage: tell someone your plans, carry plenty of water and a map. Seasonal: tracks may close after heavy rain, in the wet season or during fire management; check NSW National Parks alerts before you go. Check in at GPS points to earn ACTIVE Coins.
