Big Scrub Loop Walking Track (~1.38 km loop) in Nightcap National Park — an NPWS Grade 3 rainforest loop (NPWS lists 1.5 km, 30 minutes to 1 hour; the mapped line is slightly shorter) through some of the most magnificent subtropical rainforest in the region, with enormous fig trees, giant stinging trees and yellow carabeen overhead and bangalow palms below. It is a popular spot for birdwatching, with Albert's lyrebirds, brush turkeys and rainforest pigeons. To reach the loop you walk through shallow water across a causeway that can become impassable during or after heavy rain. The track can be hard to follow in places, so keep to the orange triangle markers; leeches are common, so bring insect repellent. The photo shows Terania Rapids elsewhere in Nightcap National Park. Seasonal: tracks may close after heavy rain, in the wet season or during fire management; check NSW National Parks alerts before you go. Check in at GPS points to earn ACTIVE Coins.
